Oxford Road Presents: The State of Podcasting 2026

Our annual look at how podcasting, audio, and creator media are shaping the world…and where we’ll go next

Every summer, Oxford Road CEO and Founder Dan Granger presents his annual “State of Podcasting” address at CAO Summit, the company’s annual gathering of podcasters, creators, publishers, networks, and measurement experts.

This year’s “State of Podcasting” overview arrives at a crucial time for the industry: Thanks to the explosive growth of video, it’s become harder for brands and advertisers to define what a podcast actually is. And it’s become even more difficult to accurately measure a program’s success.

Granger’s talk, titled “Where Audio and Creator Media Collide,” helps clear up much of that confusion by pointing out several major shifts in the last year, many of them hugely beneficial to the industry: The migration of trust away from institutions and toward creators; YouTube’s increased power as a source of both video and audio; and a series of deals, both big and small, that have helped increase ad spending on podcasting, audio, and creators increase by more than 15 percent.

And while Granger notes that measurement in podcasting is broken, he also offers a solution: The AMP Accords, a new industry proposal that suggests new standards that could greatly improve how podcasts are defined, and how exposure and attribution are measured. It’s a landmark effort, one that could unlock as much as $1 billion in spending, and help brands and sellers finally agree on what they’re buying and selling.
