How AI Companies Can Use Audio to Boost their Brand

A new study finds untapped marketing opportunities for AI companies in the worlds of podcasting and radio.

AI is one of the most talked-about technologies of the 21st century. It’s also one of the most misunderstood. Though many businesses have embraced AI for its efficiency and speed, millions of Americans are only modestly aware of the technology, and some fear it altogether. Those differing attitudes mean that AI companies looking to build their brand have plenty of challenges ahead—but plenty of opportunities, as well.

To learn more about differing attitudes toward AI, and to explore the untapped potential for AI brands and marketers, Oxford Road partnered with the Cumulus Media | Westwood One Audio Active Group® on a timely new study: “The Great AI Divide: How Audio Can Help AI Companies Build Their Brands.” The report underscores AI’s adoption struggles, and examines how tech companies can use audio to increase awareness of AI products.

Among the report’s key findings:

  • AI brands need to market themselves: Americans are vaguely aware and modestly interested in AI services. Weekly AI use (50%) is at the same levels that internet use was in 2001.
  • Audio should be a centerpiece of AI media plans: Heavy podcast and AM/FM radio listeners significantly over-index on AI usage, awareness, and interest.
  • AI ad creative must prioritize emotional benefits over rational benefits: Brands focusing solely on AI’s speed, cost savings, and ROI need to instead emphasize the technology’s emotional impact, which can help influence brand trust and purchase motivation.
